Gays and Lesbians in Russia
I wholeheartedly agree with David Tuller’s commentary, “It’s Still Winter for Russia’s Gays” (Jan. 30). As Russia struggles to become a democracy it is imperative that the West encourage basic human rights, but it is doubtful that our leaders will speak to the plight of Russia’s persecuted lesbians and gay men.
Our politicians at best pay lip service to and at worst actively seek to destroy American gays. How could we possibly expect this pitiful group of politicians to stand up for a group of people in a foreign country when they can’t--or won’t--take a stand here?
