Rubber Ducks May Help Cause
In this time of tight budgets, the Los Angeles River Task Force has reached into the domain of children’s toys to suggest a way to help pay for the beautification of the concrete waterway.
One of three demonstration projects announced by the panel Thursday was a Bridge Festival that would include a River Regatta for “appropriate non-powered watercraft”--beginning near Griffith Park and ending at the Broadway Bridge downtown--all “facilitated by an inflatable dam.”
And the moneymaker?
“The regatta,” the panel’s 23-page report explained, “would feature a human-powered portion and a separate race of miniature craft such as model boats, radio-controlled boats or rubber ducks. This event could help raise funds by selling rubber ducks at the festival for entry in the race. . . . “
