Trial on Track: The California Supreme Court has refused to block trial of a lawsuit against Robin Williams by a former lover who says he gave her herpes. Williams had asked the court to put Michelle Tish Carter’s $6.2-million suit on hold while it decided whether he had a duty to warn her he had a venereal disease at the outset of their two-year affair in 1984. The case is scheduled to be tried in August. Williams has countersued Carter for extortion.

Robin Williams denies charges-- A Feb. 24 report in Calendar misstated the status of a lawsuit filed against Robin Williams by Michelle Tish Carter, who claims he infected her with the herpes virus. Williams denies infecting Carter with herpes, says he does not have any sexually transmitted diseases, and accuses Carter of trying to extort money from him. Williams was not trying to delay the trial but had asked the California Supreme Court to rule if there is a duty to warn potential lovers if one has a sexually transmitted disease and if a person assumes the risk of catching such a disease if he or she does not ask about it before sex. The court refused to decide these issues before the trial, scheduled for August.
