THOUSAND OAKS : PTA’s Reflections Program to Honor 61 Students in the Arts

Share

Thousand Oaks students will be honored tonight for their artwork, writing, music and photography in the PTA’s countywide Reflections program.

A total of 61 Conejo Valley Unified School District students whose projects earned first, second or third place, or honorable mention, will be given certificates. Their entries will also be on display.

The exhibit is sponsored by the Conejo Council of PTAs and the school district.

Since 1969, the National PTA has sponsored the Reflections program to encourage kindergarten through 12th- grade students to explore the arts in the fields of visual arts, literature, music and photography.

This year’s theme, “Exploring New Beginnings,” attracted about 2,600 entries from students throughout Ventura County, including 892 entries from the Conejo Valley. The entries were judged by local artisans.

Last month, 111 awards were given, with more than half of them going to Conejo Valley children, said Alice Humbertson, local Reflections chairwoman.

The district, which had a record number of entries this year, won more awards than any other school district in the county, Humbertson said.

Conejo Valley’s nine first-place projects will be entered in a statewide competition to be judged this spring.

The exhibit will begin at 7 p.m. in the theater at Westlake High School at 100 N. Lakeview Canyon Road.
