Pete Rose said he might apply for reinstatement to baseball by the end of the year.
“The longer I wait, the better my chances (of getting reinstated),” Rose said. “But I’m sure I’ll apply in the next few years.”
Then-commissioner A. Bartlett Giammati banned Rose in August 1989 for betting on baseball. Rose can’t be elected to the Hall of Fame until he is removed from the permanently ineligible list.
None of the previous 14 people banned from baseball were allowed back in, but Rose said none ever applied for reinstatement.
