The Santa Ana winds will leave today, taking with them the warm temperatures that provided a brief preview of summer, weather forecasters said Thursday.

“The Santa Ana is dying,” said Wilbur Shigehara, chief forecaster for the National Weather Service in San Diego. After the Santa Ana passes today, its wake will leave San Diego dry and sunny Saturday, with temperatures still on the warm side, Shigehara said.

By Sunday, however, rain clouds are expected to move into the county. There is a possibility of rain Sunday evening, when an approaching storm is expected to arrive, Shigehara said.

Today, the high temperature in the coastal area, including downtown, will be 75 degrees, Shigehara said. On Saturday, the high will reach 73 degrees, and, Sunday, the high may reach 70, he said. The low temperature throughout the weekend will be between 48 and 55 degrees, the weather service said.

The inland areas will have a high temperature near 80 degrees today. The high temperature will decrease to 76 degrees Saturday and a drop a few degrees Sunday, Shigehara said. The nighttime low temperature will be near 50 degrees, he said.

The mountains will reach 60 degrees today and Saturday, Shigehara said. The high temperature will drop 10 degrees, peaking at 50 degrees Sunday, he said. The low temperatures in the mountains this weekend should be between 38 and 48 degrees, Shigehara said.

The deserts will have high temperatures in the 80s today and Saturday, Shigehara said. On Sunday, the high temperature will be in the 70s, he said. The low temperature in the mountains will be near 50 degrees this weekend, Shigehara said.
