Blame Dunleavy for Laker Ills
You guys in the media helped run Mike Schuler out of town by noting every rumor of his demise, by criticizing his coaching moves, by printing every rumor of team dissent, by not supporting him.
Interestingly enough, during this same time, it is as if Mike Dunleavy is off-limits. Nowhere have I read a single reproach of Dunleavy. The headlines are filled with “tired Lakers lose again.” Nobody questions why they might be tired.
It should be clear by now that the reason the Lakers are “thin” and “tired” is because Dunleavy, like Pat Riley before him, keeps his player rotation limited. Tony Smith proved he can play in the last Golden State game. It’s a shame Dunleavy pulled him in the last 30 seconds and let Sedale Threatt blow the chance to tie the game. Chucky Brown started 62 games last year for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He, too, deserves a chance to play.
Next time the Lakers lose, put the blame where it belongs--on Dunleavy for not using more of the players he has.
