HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL BOYS’ PLAYOFF ROUNDUP

Ventura Buena 64, Pasadena 63--Lance Fay’s 18-foot shot with three seconds remaining lifted Buena to a I-A victory at Ventura College.

Fay, who also broke Jeff Oliver’s career scoring record at Buena and has 1,611 points with at least one more game to play, finished with a game-high 22 points. He also had five assists.

Andy Saint added 21 points and 11 rebounds for Buena (23-4).

Treyvone Townes led Pasadena (19-9).

Ridgecrest Burroughs 61, Placentia Valencia 57--Scott Hansen’s two free throws with 14 seconds left lifted Ridgecrest Burroughs (17-6) to a II-A victory at Esperanza High.

Hansen, who had a game-high 14 points, went to the line after Valencia was forced to foul late in the game trailing by two points.

Valencia (15-10) trailed most of the second half, but rallied to take a 55-54 lead with 2:52 left.

Glendora 64, Righetti 46--Sophomore guard Cameron Murray led Glendora (29-0) with 25 points in a II-AA victory at Ayala High.

Senior center Brandon Lee added 14 points for the Tartans, who have the only undefeated record in the tournament.

Righetti (18-9) led, 12-10, after the first quarter, but was outscored, 25-9, in the second quarter and fell further behind in the second half.

Santa Paula 75, Garden Grove Rancho Alamitos 62--Guard Joe Ramirez scored 26 points to lead Santa Paula to a III-A victory at Bolsa Grande High.

Rancho Alamitos (15-11) stayed close for three quarters, but was outscored, 23-15, in the fourth. The Vaqueros were led by Ed Taylor’s 19 points.

Santa Paula (20-5) also received 18 points from guard George Albinez.

Playa del Rey St. Bernard 56, Covina 47--Terrell Hickman and Derek Bias each scored 12 points to pace St. Bernard (19-10) to a III-A victory at Walnut High.

Covina (12-14) was led by Brian Kearns, who had 19 points.

City Boys

Carson 75, Washington 67--Although Brandon Martin led Washington with 21 points, he was held scoreless in the fourth quarter of a Division 4-A quarterfinal loss at Carson.

Carson (19-7) was led by Rudy Washington’s 26 points.

South Gate 53, Reseda 51--Miguel Villegas, who had 18 points, scored the winning basket on a layup with eight seconds remaining to lift South Gate (21-7) to a 3-A upset at Reseda.

Reseda (14-7) had a chance to win the game, but guard Marquis Burns missed a three-point shot at the buzzer.

Fremont 96, Hamilton 56--Guard Ricky Brown led Fremont (28-3) with 20 points at home.

Hamilton (12-9) was led by Michael Houston’s 23 points.
