El Monte : Youth Arrested in Slaying
A reputed gang member has been arrested in the shooting death of an acquaintance, El Monte police said.
The suspect, a teen-ager whose name was withheld, was arrested in Baldwin Park on Thursday.
The victim, Angel Loera, 17, was with a group of friends Wednesday night in a carport under an apartment building in the 10000 block of Rose Street when a gunman walked up and fired at least one shot, investigators said. The reputed gang member was dead on arrival at an Arcadia hospital.
Although wounded in the chest, Loera helped his friends wrestle the gun from the assailant.
No details were available on what led to the arrest of the suspect, who apparently knew Loera, officers said.
