The manager of a Chatsworth restaurant fled after the entrance of two armed men early Sunday, then returned with a gun and fatally shot one of the would-be robbers, Los Angeles police said.

The manager went to a nearby residence and borrowed a handgun after the intruders entered Los Toros restaurant in the 21700 block of Devonshire Street about 1:45 a.m. just as employees were leaving for the night, Officer Sandra O’Brien said.

When the manager returned, the men opened fire and he fired back, killing one of them, O’Brien said. The other intruder was able to get into a car driven by a third man, who sped east on Devonshire.
