A Santa Paula teen-ager was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving Monday after he rammed his car into the back of a Santa Paula Police Department patrol car whose driver had stopped at a red light, authorities said.

Santa Paula Police Sgt. Wes Easley was treated at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital for head and neck injuries he suffered in the crash, and later released, Santa Paula Police Agent James E. Ward said.

Police arrested Louis Ernest Bonilla, 18, at the scene, Ward said.

Easley was driving west on West Main Street at 1:14 a.m. when he stopped for a red light at Peck Road, Ward said.

Easley’s car was struck in the rear by Bonilla’s vehicle with so much force that it ended up 35 feet into the intersection, Ward said.

Bonilla was charged with felony drunk driving and released Monday. An arraignment is scheduled for March 9.
