Share

A 55-year-old worker was killed early Thursday after his arm became stuck in the rollers of a rubber production machine, pulling him in and crushing his chest, authorities said.

Guadalupe Lopez of Brea was one of four people working on a stationary machine that cuts and forms sheets of rubber at the Kirkhill Rubber Co. at 300 E. Cypress St.

Lopez apparently got his left arm caught in the machine about 6:30 a.m. and was pulled in, said Brea Fire Battalion Chief Joe Roguski.

Paramedics found Lopez dead at the scene of asphyxiation due to compression of his chest, according to Deputy Coroner Ted Sullivan.

Kirkhill officials said they do not know what may have led to the fatal accident. The state Occupational Safety and Health Administration began an investigation into the death, authorities said.
