James Funk, former redevelopment director in Huntington Park, will become deputy city administrator of development services in Pomona, starting Monday.
City Administrator Julio Fuentes said Funk, who will be paid $80,000 a year, will oversee the city Redevelopment Agency and direct efforts to attract new businesses.
Creation of the position follows a recommendation of the Los Angeles County grand jury, which last year criticized the city redevelopment effort as understaffed and lacking in expertise.
Fuentes said Funk, a Seal Beach resident, has more than 25 years of experience in planning and redevelopment work--including nearly 10 years in Huntington Park. He has been a private consultant since leaving Huntington Park in 1988.
