Jewelry Store Robbers Grab 50 Rings

Two men robbed a La Jolla jewelry store late Friday, forcing two customers and three employees to lie face-down on the floor while they ransacked a display case.

The men, described as wearing military-style haircuts, walked into Weisfield’s Jewelers in the University Town Center mall about 8:47 p.m., just moments before closing time, according to San Diego police.

“We were showing some customers some rings from a particular display case,” said the store manager. “Then they ransacked the case. This I gather because we were on the floor. They said ‘Get down!’ and we got down. It all happened rather fast.”

The two men, who police said were in their 20s, were also described as wearing baggy denims and long-sleeve T-shirts.

Police said they made off with about 50 rings valued at $47,000, but store employees said a final dollar amount had not been determined.
