CHULA VISTA : Missing Girls Admit Perpetrating Hoax

Share

Two teen-age girls who had been reported missing since the weekend admitted Tuesday that they made up a story about being abducted in order to avoid punishment, Chula Vista police said.

The girls, ages 12 and 14 from San Diego, disappeared Saturday night after going to a carnival in Chula Vista with friends, Police Lt. Sherwood George said. On Tuesday they called their parents and met them in Chula Vista, then went to police saying that they had been abducted and drugged by four boys.

But, after questioning Tuesday evening, the girls admitted that the abduction story was a hoax and told police that they left the carnival with the boys voluntarily, George said. Police are trying to determine who the youths are and whether they should be investigated for possibly contributing to the delinquency of minors, George said.
