MISSION VIEJO : Faulty Heater Causes Spectacular Blaze

Share

Flames escaping from a forced-air heater caused $170,000 damage to a two-story house here Saturday night, the Orange County Fire Department said. There were no injuries.

Fire investigators said the flames escaped from the heater’s rusty flue and burned through the roof of the home in the 26000 block of Cadenas.

Firefighters leaving their station about two miles away saw spectacular flames shooting into the sky, department spokesman Steve McClellan said. Neighbors called to report the blaze at 9:55 p.m., he said.

Sparks touched off small brush fires nearby that were quickly extinguished, fire officials said.

Fifty-three firefighters controlled the blaze within 25 minutes, McClellan said.

Six engines, two trucks, medics and two battalion chiefs were on hand during the effort.
