The woman accusing three New York Mets of raping her in the house where Dwight Gooden lived during spring training last year called police within a week of the incident but for months refused to sign a statement, Newsday says.
The newspaper, quoting sources close to the investigation, reported that when the woman finally decided to press charges, after months of conversations with Port St. Lucie, Fla., police, she signed a statement that ran more than 10 pages. The woman, identified in reports as a 31-year-old who works as an architect and interior designer, signed the statement on March 3. In it, she alleges that three Mets raped her between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on March 30, 1991.
