Readers Would Gladly Take Their Chances With These Contracts
There goes Mike Downey again, soliciting sympathy for the high and mighty. Have pity on Pete Rose because he won’t be in the Hall of Fame. Have pity on Bo Jackson because his career is over. But here’s the rub. Understand why they’re making salaries that set them up financially for a dozen lifetimes. Understand that they need their millions because their careers are so short.
Grow up! These guys deserve no pity. They’re just waking up, something all of us do sooner or later. The man deserving pity is the one without a home, the one who is sick, and generally, the one who has never tasted glory.
