BELLFLOWER : Use of Warehouse OKd for Distribution of Food
The Los Angeles County Transportation Commission has agreed to let Bellflower and a community church temporarily use an old metal warehouse to distribute food to families in need.
Hosanna Chapel’s Lifeguard Food Ministry will use the former railroad freight depot for office space, food storage and distribution. The church service, started in 1990, delivers basic foodstuffs to between 1,500 and 2,000 people a week.
The food bank collects excess food items from stores, bakeries, restaurants and the Los Angeles Produce Market. The church had operated its food bank in a small storefront near the trackside warehouse owned by LACTC.
The 11,500-square-foot former freight depot, which the LACTC acquired in 1990 while buying land for future transit needs, is at the intersection of Bellflower Boulevard and Flora Vista Street in central Bellflower.
Terms of the month-to-month lease were not disclosed.
