HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Unbeaten Granada Hills Blasts Reseda, 16-5

Heath McElwee, Sam Voita and Pete Pero each hit home runs to lead Granada Hills High to a 16-5 rout of Reseda in a Northwest Valley Conference baseball game Wednesday at Reseda.

The Highlanders (7-0, 2-0 in conference play) finished with 14 hits. Mike Rutter had a home run for Reseda (2-4, 0-2).

Taft 5, Cleveland 3--Mike Sweeney, John Erganian and Josh Irving each had two hits to lead a 10-hit attack for Taft (4-2-1, 2-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Cleveland.

Montclair Prep 5, Bishop Montgomery 0--Russell Ortiz and Steve Cain combined on a four hitter as Montclair Prep (4-1-1) won a nonleague game at Bishop Montgomery.

Saugus 3, Palmdale 2--Bobby Cowan hurled a one-hitter and struck out six for host Saugus (4-3, 1-0) in a Golden League game.

Newbury Park 4, Agoura 0--Tim Farris retired the final 11 batters he faced in the Marmonte League opener for host Newbury Park (4-3 overall).

Notre Dame 2, St. Bernard 0--Chris Garza (4-0) threw a five-hitter and struck out eight for Notre Dame (4-1-1) in the Mission League game at St. Bernard.

Simi Valley 4, Thousand Oaks 3 (eight innings)--Aaron Fischer hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Simi Valley (5-1) in a Marmonte League opener. Jeff Olin of Thousand Oaks (0-7) homered in the top of the inning.

Alemany 3, Chaminade 0--Kevin Tate had two hits for Alemany (4-3-1) and picked up his second save by striking out the side in the seventh inning of a Mission League opener at Chaminade.

Kennedy 10, Chatsworth 8--Kennedy (5-2, 1-1) survived a two-out, five-run rally in the seventh to earn a Northwest Valley Conference win.

John Davis went three for three with two runs batted in to lead Kennedy’s 13-hit attack.
