Jennifer Capriati, playing her first doubles event of the season, teamed with Gigi Fernandez for a first-round victory over No. 3-seeded Katrina Adams and Manon Bollegraf at the $175,000 Light n’ Lively doubles tournament in Wesley Chapel, Fla.

Capriati and Fernandez, who won, 6-2, 7-5, advanced to today’s semifinals against top-seeded Jana Novotna and Larisa Savchenko-Neiland, 6-3, 6-1 winners over Leila Meskhi and Mercedes Paz.

Second-seeded Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and Natalia Zvereva meet Gretchen Magers and Robin White in the other semifinal.
