William Mutwol of Kenya set a world record in the 5,000-meter run, winning the Carlsbad 5000 on in 13 minutes 11.7 seconds. The previous record was 13:26, set in 1989 by Yobes Ondieki of Kenya.
Vicki Huber, 24, of Villanova, Pa., was the top woman finisher with an American-record time of 15:14.
