Cal State Fullerton’s Matsumoto Is Still Critical After Car Accident
Cal State Fullerton tennis player Marni Matsumoto, who was injured in a car accident early Saturday morning, was still in critical condition Sunday afternoon at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Clinical coordinator Paula Chela was unable to release any additional information.
Matsumoto was driving east on the Riverside Freeway near the Brookhurst Street off-ramp when she lost control of her car, California Highway Patrol officers said. The 1980 Honda Accord was traveling about 60 m.p.h. and “apparently struck a raised concrete abutment,” then became airborne, CHP officers said.
The car landed on the freeway on-ramp at Brookhurst, skidded sideways and slammed into a tree, according to the CHP.
Titan women’s tennis Coach Bill Reynolds said Matsumoto, 20, a sophomore from La Palma was on her way to an 8 a.m. meet between Cal State Fullerton and Texas El Paso.
