Crenshaw : Grand Opening of Market
Mayor Tom Bradley, City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter and other elected and community leaders will take part in the grand opening of a 43,000-square-foot Lucky supermarket at 10 a.m. today in the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza.
Lucky Stores Inc. is the first major supermarket chain to open a store in the southwest Los Angeles community in three decades.
Galanter organized a successful letter-writing campaign and petition drive that won a commitment from Lucky to build the market.
The supermarket is expected to attract customers who for years have been traveling long distances to lower-priced markets outside the middle- and upper-middle-class area. It is also expected to strengthen the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza.
