Landslide, Dangerous Boulders Close Road

A landslide closed a busy two-lane road Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Park Avenue, one of two roads leading to the Top of the World neighborhood, was closed after rocks and dirt covered both lanes in the late afternoon.

Workers filled three dump trucks with rocks and debris during a two-hour cleanup.

City Manager Kenneth C. Frank said the road would probably not reopen until tonight.

The thoroughfare, between Wendt Terrace and Tahiti Avenue, was cleared of debris. However, large boulders hanging precariously from the steep hillsides at the sides of the road prevented immediate opening of the road, Frank said.

“They’re too dangerous,” Frank said of the boulders.
