Shots Fired Into Car Kill Child
Gunshots apparently aimed at a man who associated with gang members fatally wounded his 18-month-old daughter as she sat beside him in his car Wednesday morning, Los Angeles police said.
Sabrina Haley died at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center of a massive head wound about six hours after she was shot, police said.
Officers said the incident occurred at 9:30 a.m. as she was sitting beside Michael Haley, 19, while his car was stopped at a traffic light at 48th Street and Avalon Boulevard.
Investigators said two young men in a dark-brown 1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo pulled up beside Haley’s car and one of them fired several rounds from a pistol.
Haley, apparently the intended target, was not injured, said Detective Carl Sims of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Newton Division. He said the two young men who sped away after the attack were being sought. Sims said Haley associates with known gang members.
