Endangered Species Act Should Be Altered to Cover Economic Impact

Share

Does Dan Silver have inside information on a gnatcatcher listing by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service? In his commentary, “Wilson-Backed ‘Conservation’ Plan Endangers His Credibility” (April 5), he states: “Insufficient time remains to avoid a California gnatcatcher listing.” I sure hope he’s misinformed, considering a listing could put an additional 20,000 people out of work.

The real problem is the Endangered Species Act. Outdated and overused, it needs to be amended to consider the socioeconomic impact of listings. I’m sure we could get Dan Silver to take the lead on this since he proclaims: “Of course, the integration of economic concerns is essential.” Yeah, sure Dan.
