McMillan Reelected in Del Mar

Share

Jan McMillan became the first Del Mar City Council member in 14 years to win reelection Tuesday night, as residents went to the polls to fill three council seats.

The former teacher and writer was the top vote-getter with 824 votes.

Henry Abarbanel, a 48-year-old UC San Diego physics professor, was second with 806 votes and Ed Colbert, a 61-year-old architect, appeared to have earned the third seat with 754 votes.

However, the results could change, depending on 52 absentee and provisional ballots that won’t be counted until today at the earliest.

McMillan and Abarbanel were both supported by the so-called “Greens” in town while Colbert was supported by the generally pro-business “Gray” party.

Rick Ehrenfeld, the other Green candidate, was fourth with 739 votes.

Robert Drummond, the only other candidate, received 698 votes.
