New Padre Mascot an Embarrassment
Having seen a piece on a television newscast concerning the rigorous competition for the new mascot for the Padres, I was more than a bit interested in the unveiling of this “cheerleader.” Saturday against the Dodgers, my worst trepidation about the new creation possibly being an embarrassment were confirmed. This ludicrous mutation of Walt Disney’s “Goofy” is as far away from an identifiable representation of San Diego as I can imagine. It does represent Tom Werner’s attachment to Hollywood, but will never make any San Diegan forget the Chicken.
Perhaps when some rambunctious youngster gives a healthy yank to the reversed bill of “Goofy’s” cap and the poor entertainer in the costume suffers an unfortunate injury will management retire this walking insult.
Attention, Padre ownership: This is not Los Angeles South!
