VENTURA : Woman Held Over Stabbing of Man

Share

A 34-year-old Ventura woman was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after she stabbed her boyfriend Tuesday as he tried to intervene in her attempted suicide, authorities said.

Natalie Tierney was threatening to kill herself with a gun at 5 a.m. when her boyfriend, Alonzo Bustillos, disarmed her, police said. She managed, however, to grab a steak knife and stabbed Bustillos while trying to ward him off, Ventura Police Lt. Don Arth said.

Officers responding to Tierney’s West Ramona Street residence found that Bustillos’ wound was superficial and did not require medical attention, Arth said. But Tierney was bleeding profusely, having stabbed herself repeatedly in the stomach and eye after knifing her boyfriend, Arth said.

Police said the woman was taken into custody for assault with a deadly weapon and placed on a 72-hour mental-health hold for diagnostic observation. Her condition was not available Tuesday night.

Arth said police are refraining from filing charges until doctors can gauge her mental state and determine whether she needs further treatment.
