SAN ONOFRE : Faulty Transformer Shuts Power Unit
Unit 2 at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station was removed from service Friday to replace a faulty electrical transformer, a utility spokesman reported.
Southern California Edison spokesman David Barron said the 1,100-megawatt generating unit is expected to be back in service early next week.
During the shutdown, plant crews will replace the transformer that malfunctioned, triggering an automatic plant shutdown, he said.
The facility’s Unit 3 is out of service for turbine maintenance and is scheduled to be back in service next week as well, Barron said.
Unit 1 was operating normally.
