SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A 32-year-old Oxnard man was killed Saturday afternoon during an argument, police said.

Michael Anthony Floyd, 32, was pronounced dead at 3:38 p.m. by paramedics who arrived on the scene, said Ventura County Deputy Coroner Dale Zentzis. Floyd suffered one gunshot wound to the head, and an autopsy has been scheduled for today, Zentzis said.

Also injured was Floyd’s nephew, Jacque D. Nash, who was shot in his lower right side. Nash was in fair condition Saturday night at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, the nursing supervisor said.

Police received a call about 3:30 p.m. about a shooting in an apartment in the 500 block of West Channel Islands Boulevard. When they arrived, officers found Floyd dead on the kitchen floor.

In an interview from his hospital bed, Nash said he and his uncle had gone to the apartment to talk to a friend. Jerlance A. Perkins and an unidentified woman were already there.

A fight erupted between his uncle and Perkins, Nash said, but he did not know what it was about. “It all happened so fast,” Nash said. “Everyone ran out of the apartment.”

Investigators Saturday night were looking for Perkins, 22, of Port Hueneme, said Oxnard Police Sgt. Randy Coates.

A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said, “I was outside, then I heard the shots, and I went running up the stairs.” She said she had left her 5-month-old son and 2-year-old daughter inside the apartment and she saw two men enter the door that she had left partly open.

“I told them to go. One of the guys didn’t want to go out, but I pushed them out the door. They ran down the stairs.”

Floyd is survived by his brother Jonathan in Oxnard and mother in Northern California, Zentzis said.
