Boy, 3, Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident Is Identified
A 3-year-old boy who died Saturday in a hit-and-run collision was identified by police Sunday as Victor Alaniz of Arleta.
The child was riding in a car with his mother, aunt and grandmother Saturday about 5:15 p.m. when they were hit by a second car, which had run a red light at Van Nuys Boulevard and Woodman Avenue, Los Angeles Police Officer Frank Zdroy said.
The child, who was sitting on his grandmother’s lap in the back seat, was ejected from the car and crushed in the collision, police said. The grandmother, Eva Hidalgo, 51, was treated for abdominal pains and released from Pacifica Hospital of the Valley in Sun Valley. No one else was injured.
The driver who ran the red light fled.
Police found the registered owner of the car, who was questioned and released, Officer Leona Thomas said. There is a suspect in the case, but no arrests have been made, Thomas said.
In a separate accident, a 37-year-old Northridge woman who died Saturday when her car hit a power pole near Lassen Street and Etiwanda Avenue was identified as Christine Marx, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said.
