SANTA CLARITA : What’s in a Name? In This Case, Not Enough

Share

As lyrical as it is, in the eyes of members of the City Council the name of the city of Santa Clarita is not enough.

So city leaders are turning to residents to help them come up with a motto that will sum up the upstart town’s dreams, self-image and philosophy and be used on city letterhead and signs. After all, council members argued, other cities have mottos, including Burbank (The City of People, Pride and Progress), Beverly Hills (The Garden City of the World), Santa Monica (A Fortunate People in a Fortunate City) and Inglewood (The All-American City).

Among some suggestions already offered are: “L.A. County’s Retreat City,” “The City That Future Generations Will Love,” and “Santa Clarita--Big Valley with Small-Town Values.”

Councilwoman Jo Anne Darcy suggested: “The City of Golden Dreams and Western Themes.”
