BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Daniels Put on Disabled List
Although X-rays did not show the bone chips that doctors feared, Kal Daniels was put on the 15-day disabled list Thursday because his sore right knee is not improving.
Daniels, who has yet to hit a home run or record a run batted in despite averaging 22 homers and 84 RBIs in the last two seasons, will be replaced by a position player who will be recalled from triple-A Albuquerque today. The leading candidate is infielder Dave Anderson, who could platoon with Dave Hansen at third base and give shortstop Jose Offerman a day off.
This move could hurt the Dodgers’ ability to trade Daniels soon.
Sources in Chicago said the Chicago Cubs, who are badly missing George Bell, have expressed interest in trading minor league prospects for Daniels, whom they would play in left field.
The Dodgers will be missing Stan Javier for at least this weekend. Javier received permission to return home to attend to a family tragedy.
