Ju Dou (TMC Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.). Perhaps China’s greatest filmmaker, Zhang Yimou--and his exquisitely lovely star, Gong Li--infuse this 1990 period drama of infidelity and murder with vibrant visuals and an undertow of over-powering eroticism.

Mother Kuster Goes to Heaven (Bravo Thursday at 6 and 11 p.m.) One of many remarkable films churned out in the ‘70’s by German director R. W. Fassbinder, this grimly ironic study of media manipulation and political hypocrisy follows the chaotic wake of a factory murder and suicide; Brigitte Mira plays the killer’s bewildered mother.

Four by Budd Boetticher (TNT Saturday at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.) Back to back and saddle to saddle, four of the matchless Westerns of star Randolph Scott and master-director Budd Boetticher. In order: the taut “Ride Lonesome” and Westbound, (both 1959), the great 1958 Buchanan Rides Alone and 1957’s Decision at Sundown.
