UC Irvine has broken ground on the new $34-million Engineering Unit 2 complex designed by the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership (ZGF) of Newport Beach. The project, expected to be completed in the summer of 1994, consists of two parts, a 124,000-square-foot building to house engineering laboratories and offices, and an 8,000-square-foot building of classrooms and a 300-seat lecture hall. ZFG concurrently is designing six buildings on four other UC campuses.
