San Diego’s Seniors Have Right to Be Teed Off

Share

The Golf Advisory Council has voted to recommend to the Public Facilities and Recreation Committee a new fee schedule for the Torrey Pines and Balboa municipal courses. This new plan would place an unfairly heavy financial burden on the senior golfers of our city. Under the new arrangement, fees for the older folks would be increased by 19% as compared to only 4% for the other golfers. Frequency of play permitted on the monthly ticket would furthermore be reduced by 33%. This projected increase for seniors would add only 2.3% to the total revenue received by the courses.

Many of our town’s seniors depend upon golf as their sole source of exercise and recreation. As staunch and loyal supporters through the years of our two city courses, they deserve at the very least an even playing field.
