Tritons Get Two Victories

Brenda Reiton, UC San Diego All-American, led the third-seeded Tritons to two victories Friday in the first day of the U.S. Women’s Water Polo Nationals at College Park, Md.

Reiton scored five goals and got three apiece from Jamie Dailey and Christine Townsend in a 14-3 victory over Cal.

Reiton scored seven goals and Dailey five in an 18-2 victory over Bucknell in pool play.

UCSD, seeded behind UC Davis and Slippery Rock, is vying for its third consecutive title. The Tritons are scheduled to play Slippery Rock and either Davis or Cal Poly San Luis Obispo today. The tournament concludes Sunday.

SOFTBALL

San Diego State’s Julie Clancy, a senior center fielder, was named to the second team All-West Region squad. Clancy led the Aztecs with a .307 batting average and 30 RBIs.

TENNIS

Grossmont College defeated DeAnza, 5-1, late Thursday at Rancho Arbolitos to win the women’s State Community College Championship, their third in a row. College of the Desert beat Foothill, 5-2, to win the men’s team title.
