Berbick Receives 4-Year Sentence
Trevor Berbick was sentenced Friday to four years in a Miami prison for raping a family baby-sitter.
Dade Circuit judge Thomas Wilson had twice delayed sentencing the former heavyweight champion, ordering a mental evaluation because of his outbursts in court. Wilson pronounced him legally competent after hearing from court-appointed psychiatrists.
Berbick lost the heavyweight title in 1986 to Mike Tyson, who also is serving a prison sentence for rape. Berbick was convicted in February of sexually assaulting a 26-year-old baby-sitter in the bedroom of her Miami apartment after driving her from his home near Ft. Lauderdale.
