Boy Chasing Ball Is Hit by Car
A 12-year-old boy chasing a foul ball from a Little League game was hit by a car and suffered two broken legs, police said Saturday.
Police did not release the name of the boy, who lives in Oxnard.
He underwent surgery at Ventura County Medical Center for his legs and for facial injuries and was in fair condition Saturday afternoon, a nursing supervisor said.
The boy was watching a Little League game on Friday when he decided to chase a foul ball hit toward the 100 block of De Anza Drive in Ventura, police said.
He darted between two parked cars, directly into the path of a car driven by Sheryl Getchman, 35, of Ventura, police said.
