The Fullerton Civic Light Opera will leave its longtime home at Plummer Auditorium and move into temporary quarters at the Pacific Auditorium here in October for the three offerings of its 1992-93 season.

The departure from Plummer will enable to city to renovate the 1,300-seat venue, FCLO General Manager Griff Duncan said Tuesday. A hydraulic orchestra pit will be installed along with an air-conditioning system, new seats, more restrooms and new sound and lighting systems. The cramped back stage area will be enlarged.

“The remodeling is based on a proposal I wrote about 10 years ago,” Duncan said. “It took them that long to get to it. They didn’t have the money. But it looks like the remodeling will get done now.”

FCLO will offer “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’ ” and “Nunsense” in the Pacific Auditorium, a 930-seat proscenium-stage theater at 2500 E. Nutwood Ave. The Pacific was converted from a movie house in the early 1960s and is owned by Pacific Christian College.

“I had to pick shows that could be done within the Pacific’s limitations,” Duncan said, noting that it has very little fly space for scenery changes. The Pacific, like Plummer, has no orchestra pit. “We’re going to have to put the orchestra into a corner down front,” said Jan Duncan, FCLO artistic director.

The temporary move to smaller quarters will not affect the company’s ability to accommodate its 8,700 subscribers, according to Duncan, who said “we’ll have more than enough seating capacity, and we’ll have better parking. availability than we have now.”
