Scotty Plummer; Banjo Player

Scotty Plummer, a longtime musician whose career got a boost by performing with Liberace at age 13, has died in Bermuda. He was 32.

A resident of Santa Clarita, Plummer died May 16 from injuries sustained in a moped accident, said his wife, Denise Plummer.

Born in San Francisco, Plummer began playing the banjo at age 10 and later toured with Liberace throughout the United States and Australia. After the three-year tour, Plummer came to the San Fernando Valley.

He appeared on “The Tonight Show,” “The Mike Douglas Show” and “The Merv Griffin Show” and with Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Tennessee Ernie Ford and Bob Newhart. In recent years, he expanded his act to include the drums, piano, trumpet and tap-dancing. Plummer was employed as a cruise ship musician at the time of his death.

In addition to his wife of three years, Plummer is survived by his daughter Kylen Plummer, and brother Kyle Plummer of San Francisco. Plummer was the son-in-law of Santa Clarita Councilman Carl Boyer.

A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Sunday at United Methodist Church of Valencia at 25718 N. McBean Parkway. Eternal Valley Mortuary in Newhall is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a memorial fund at the church.
