LOS ANGELES : Simi Valley Mayor Rips Group’s Plan for Parade
- Share via
Simi Valley Mayor Greg Stratton on Thursday condemned plans announced in Los Angeles by the radical, right-wing Nationalist Movement group to hold a parade June 6 to celebrate the not guilty verdicts for Los Angeles police officers accused in the Rodney King beating.
“Our city, and this entire area, are extremely dismayed that this group of people from outside our area have chosen Simi Valley as a site to demonstrate,” Stratton said. “We are morally outraged at the religious and racial causes they support.”
Richard Barrett, leader of the Mississippi-based group, which is often described as a white supremacist organization, denied during a Los Angeles news conference Thursday that his movement is racist as he announced plans for the march to honor those he dubbed “the LAPD’s Gallant Four.”
Stratton said his city has yet to take action on Barrett’s application for a parade permit.
