SAN DIEGO : Motorist Finds Dismembered Body

A decomposed and partly dismembered human body was discovered Thursday morning along a dirt road in an open area near Brown Field on Otay Mesa, San Diego Police said.

A motorist who had been driving east on Lonestar Road about 6:30 a.m. reported seeing a human hand, arm and shoulder in the middle of the roadway, said police Lt. John Welter.

When police arrived, they searched an adjacent field and found the rest of the body, which had the head and arms removed, Welter said.

Investigators were not sure whether humans were responsible for the mutilation of the body, which showed signs of having been disturbed by animals, Welter said.

Based on its size and clothing, investigators believe the badly decomposed body is that of a man. The race of the person also could not be immediately determined, Welter said. An autopsy will be performed by the medical examiner’s office.

“It may have been an undocumented migrant coming through there. It may also have been a dump of a body, given the location of the road,” Welter said.
