Bond Measures for Education

Share

As a graduate level nurse practitioner student at Cal State Long Beach I am writing in protest over the recent announcement of plans to eliminate the graduate programs in nursing at the university. It is understandable that budget cuts in education must be made, but it seems to me that to cut the nursing programs will create greater hardship for the people of this state in terms of the quality of their health care delivery, as well as its cost.

Nurse practitioners not only provide cost-effective health care, but are also the primary professionals delivering health care to the indigent, needy and underinsured of this state. How can the people who control the purse strings at the university level even think of terminating a program so vital to the people of this state at a time when health care across the country is in a state of crisis?
