Fast-Moving Brush Fire Claims 930 Hillside Acres Near Hemet
A fast-moving wildfire burned out of control Sunday in Riverside County, consuming at least 930 acres of hillside brush as crews struggled through the night to extinguish the blaze.
State Department of Forestry spokeswoman Joanne Evans said the fire broke out around midday in a flat, brush-covered field six miles east of Hemet.
Firefighters were able to cut lines around 70% of the fire by late Sunday, but they were not expected to bring the fire under control until this morning, she said.
No homes were threatened by the blaze. However, two firefighters were treated at Hemet Valley Community Hospital for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation, Evans said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
