Firefighters Battle 1,150-Acre Blaze in Hills Around Hemet
Firefighters battled heat and capricious winds to tame a 1,150-acre blaze in rugged Riverside County hills Tuesday.
More than 500 firefighters hampered by temperatures in the 90s and unstable 15-m.p.h. winds expected to surround the Hemet blaze late in the day. Six firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
Meanwhile, two Yucaipa men were arrested for allegedly touching off a 100-acre wildfire near Redlands that was extinguished Tuesday.
Hilario Nunez, 24, and Juan Ramirez, 21, were booked for investigation of arson and auto theft, San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies said.
Witnesses said the men were seen running from a burning, stolen car where the blaze started Monday night, county spokesman Bill Peters said.
