Outfielder Rickey Henderson of the Oakland Athletics, slow to recover from a left hamstring injury, was put on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 28.

Henderson strained his hamstring May 27 while stealing second base against the Cleveland Indians. He is batting .282 with six homers, 19 RBIs and 22 stolen bases.

Oakland activated shortstop Walt Weiss, sidelined since the start of the season with a strained muscle in his left rib cage.

Rookie pitcher Pat Mahomes of the Minnesota Twins, who has had two successive mediocre outings, was sent back to triple-A Portland along with outfielder Jarvis Brown.

The Twins recalled pitcher Willie Banks, the Twins’ No. 1 pick in the June 1987 free-agent draft, and outfielder J.T. Bruett. Banks is scheduled to start Friday at Texas.

A 2-year-old boy going to a Milwaukee Brewer game with his father was hit and killed by a golf cart driven by a team employee at Milwaukee County Stadium.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office said Michael Harrison was fatally injured when his father, Christopher, stopped to buy a souvenir from a vendor.
