Little League Founder Carl Stotz Is Dead at 82
Carl Stotz, who founded Little League baseball a half century ago, died Thursday. He was 82.
Stotz died at Williamsport Hospital after being admitted last week for coronary problems.
“It’s the end of an era,” said Steve Keener, a spokesman for Little League Baseball Inc. “But that the program affects millions of children is certainly a nice thing to be remembered for.”
Stotz founded Little League in Williamsport in 1939, and the organization has since expanded to include teams all over the world. The first Little League World Series game was played in Williamsport in 1947.
The northeastern Pennsylvania town is the home of the Little League World Series.
